How to Search Sentiment
Every sample is sourced and linked, every label describes the sentiment in that quote. You’re about to run your first search.
This guide walks through your first search, from entering a question to reading the results.
Step 1: Enter a research question
Type anything you’re curious about into the search box. It can be a full question or a single word; a brand, a topic, a name. For your first search, try something you’re already curious about: a product you’re thinking of buying, a topic in the news, a brand you’ve been wondering about. For tips on writing better questions, see the Search Guide.
Step 2: Wait for verification
A quick human check runs to keep the service fast for everyone. It takes just a few seconds.
Step 3: Watch the search run
Once verified, Sentimentary searches Reddit for relevant discussions. Search cards show where it’s looking. Fetch cards show the pages being read. Most searches finish in under a minute.
Step 4: Read the sentiment core
When the search completes, you’ll see the sentiment core, a colored ring that shows the overall emotional tone. The word in the center is the strongest signal from the samples. Green leans positive, red leans negative, yellow means guarded (undecided, still weighing the options), blue means apathetic (resigned, sitting on the fence).
Step 5: Browse the samples
Below the core, each sample is a quote from another user. It’s labeled with its sentiment (positive, negative, guarded, or apathetic) and linked to the source on Reddit. You can scroll through all the samples or search again with a new question; try comparing two options, or narrowing to a specific audience, to see how the sentiment shifts.
